DART’s GoPass app, built on Unwire’s mobility platform, wins APTA 2019 Innovation Award
Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) GoPass ® app, powered by Unwire’s innovative mobility platform, has been awarded the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) 2019 Innovation Award. The award will be announced at APTA’s 2019 TRANSform Conference on Tuesday 15 October 2019.
APTA’s award honors a public transportation system member who has demonstrated innovative concepts or effective problem-solving techniques not previously applied in the public transportation industry. This year’s entries had to show how their transit system had demonstrated excellence over a three-year period (2016-18).
The DART GoPass ® app is the first public mobile mobility solution in the United States that involves multiple agencies and a range of different forms of transportation including first and last mile micro-transit options.
Unwire and DART have a long relationship developing the GoPass ® app solution, which enables users to pay for their rides, book their rides and plan trips through a multi-modal journey planner. It also allows a variety of payment methods including debit or credit card, Apple Pay or cash-to-mobile, and includes a fare cap to ensure that riders will never spend more than the total cost of a monthly pass in a calendar month.
Jesper Thor Rasmussen, Unwire CEO, said, “We are delighted that DART, with their GoPass app, has been recognized by APTA in their 2019 Innovation Award category. This recognition reflects the creativity Unwire has brought to DART, with our team and our mobility platform, to provide a solution that meets the modern challenges of a transit agency looking to offer their riders choices and convenience.”
He added, “We have been working with mobile mobility solutions since 2008. Our experience within this area formed the basis for a partnership with DART, and since 2013, we have worked with them to implement a best-in-class mobility solution. Since the first launch of the GoPass solution, where users could buy tickets and special passes, the solution has been extended with new features and we are continuing to innovate. At Unwire we have an agile approach to development and worked closely with DART on sandbox projects helping to create a highly successful solution.”
“Our mobility platform is pushing the boundaries of mobility as a service, and the users are telling us that they have a very high level of satisfaction from using solutions like the GoPass app.”
Unwire has worked with DART to develop the GoPass app from one of the first mobile ticketing solutions in the U.S. to a state-of-the-art multi-modal mobility solution. The GoPass app solution has been prepared to expand nationally to cover other cities and transit providers thus providing mobility as a service regardless of mode or provider.
